Education and Human Development

CEHD Dean's Welcome

A Message From Dean Donna M. Ploessl:

On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, welcome to the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Montevallo! As dean, I am proud of the teaching, research, and community outreach that we perform each day.

Our focus is our students, and our mission is to prepare highly skilled, knowledgeable, and continually developing undergraduate and graduate candidates who make informed decisions, use current evidence and research-based practices, and promote healthy and equitable communities through careers in counseling, exercise and nutrition science, family and consumer sciences, leadership, teaching, and technology.

Programs are varied and innovative. Yet we work to build an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. The personalized attention, service-learning opportunities, clinical practice, field-based experiences, and sense of community provided within the College allow for a high level of interaction between students, professional and administrative staff, and faculty. This, paired with a faculty committed to making knowledge matter, allows the CEHD to prepare our candidates not only to succeed in an always shifting world, but to lead.

The College is accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Specialty accreditations and recognition respectively include the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), National Council for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

I invite you to explore the website and the varied opportunities the CEHD has to offer. On our website, you will learn about the academic programs, and see how our students and faculty work together to engage with the educational, health, tourism, and industry communities. We hope you will consider becoming part of the CEHD and larger UM family and participate in an academic experience that prepares you to make a difference. If you would like to learn more, please contact us so that we can tell you about our programs, and why we think a degree from the University of Montevallo is unique and highly regarded.

Go Falcons!
